Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist, Works on Paper by the Artist and his Circle is a private collection of works that exhibited at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido in summer 2019.
This exhibition was my first experience with the process of designing for museum environments, as well as being tasked with designing multiple types of deliverables concurrently. As a junior designer at the time, I jumped feet first in the fire to create posters and flyers, the title wall of the exhibition, didactic panels, and large hanging vinyl banners.
Process
We started the process with selecting the premier pieces from the collection and finding a common thread that represents the works. For this collection, we chose to keep the design very minimal, pull from the grays and nude colors of the pencil and charcoal drawings, and use Degas’ painterly signature as motif through out the deliverables.
