Artist Statement

Developing my artistic practice has always overlapped and intertwined with the development of my spiritual practice. Ephemeral experiences with the Divine became material, creating artwork became an exploration of the holy, and slowly, without a precise point of transition, the two have become one process. The visual language I use to depict this enmeshment is the layering and juxtaposition of transparent color and opaque religious vernacular. Over the years, resin has become an important medium for creating these abstract luminous word paintings. The layering of colored resin relates to my strange intuitive capacity to describe people, sounds, and experiences as colors; the words relate to the contemplation of these synesthetic revelations. The process of unraveling and synthesising feels complicated and strange, but it’s so beautiful that I don’t think I can stop it.

I am currently an Artist in Residence at Liberty Station in Point Loma, CA.
